Your data, handled
with care.

This Privacy Policy explains what Essel collects, why we collect it, and the control you keep over it. We collect only what the product needs to research, write, and publish content for you, and we never sell your personal information.

Last updated June 27, 2026

Overview

Essel is an autonomous AI SEO content engine. To plan topics, draft articles, score quality, and publish to your connected platforms, we process account details, the content you create, and the credentials you grant for the integrations you choose to connect. This page covers how that data flows through the product.

This policy applies to essel.ai, the Essel dashboard, our public tools, and our APIs (together, the "Service"). It does not cover third-party sites or platforms you connect Essel to, which are governed by their own policies.

Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Account data: your name, email address, and password or single sign-on identity when you create a workspace.
  • Workspace content: topics, briefs, keywords, drafts, prompts, brand guidelines, and any text or media you add to the Service.
  • Integration credentials: API keys and OAuth tokens you grant so Essel can publish to platforms like WordPress, Webflow, and Ghost. These are encrypted and used only to perform actions you request.
  • Billing details: handled by our payment processor. We store a customer reference and plan status, not your full card number.
  • Support messages: anything you send us by email or in-app.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data: pages viewed, features used, and actions taken in the dashboard, so we can improve the product and diagnose issues.
  • Device and log data: IP address, browser type, and timestamps recorded for security and reliability.
  • Cookies: a small set of cookies that keep you signed in and measure aggregate usage. See the Cookies section below.

Information from third parties

When you connect a platform or sign in with a provider, we receive the account details and scopes you approve. When you run a research or audit task, we fetch public data about the URLs and keywords you specify.

How we use your information

  • Run the core workflow: research topics, generate and optimize drafts, score quality, and publish to the platforms you connect.
  • Operate your account, authenticate you, and provide support.
  • Maintain security, prevent abuse, and debug problems.
  • Measure and improve product performance using aggregated, de-identified usage data.
  • Send service messages about your account, and product updates you can opt out of.
  • Meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.

We do not use your private workspace content to train foundation models, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.

AI and content generation

Essel uses third-party AI providers to generate and analyze content. When you run a task, the relevant prompt and context are sent to these providers under contracts that prohibit using your data to train their models. We pass only what a given task needs, and we retain the resulting drafts in your workspace so you stay in control of revisions and publishing.

How we share information

We share data only with service providers that help us run Essel, and only to the extent each one needs:

  • Cloud hosting and storage providers that run the Service.
  • AI providers that generate and score content, under no-training contracts.
  • Research and SEO data providers used to fetch keyword and ranking signals.
  • Payment processors that handle billing.
  • Analytics and error-monitoring tools used to keep the product reliable.
  • The publishing platforms you explicitly connect, to perform the actions you request.

We may also disclose information to comply with the law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights and safety of our users. If Essel is involved in a merger or acquisition, we will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Data retention

We keep your data while your workspace is active and for as long as needed to provide the Service. When you delete content or close your account, we remove the associated data from active systems within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal or financial obligations. Backups are purged on a rolling schedule.

How we protect your data

We encrypt data in transit and at rest, restrict access to authorized personnel on a need-to-know basis, and monitor our systems for unusual activity. For the full picture, see our Security page.

Your rights and choices

  • Access and export the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate details from your account settings.
  • Delete your content or close your account at any time.
  • Disconnect any integration to revoke Essel's access to that platform.
  • Opt out of marketing email using the unsubscribe link or your settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email [email protected] and we will respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires.

International transfers

Essel operates globally, so your data may be processed in countries other than your own. When we transfer personal data across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to keep your information protected to the same standard.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and a small number of analytics cookies to understand aggregate usage. You can block non-essential cookies in your browser settings; the Service will still work, though some preferences may not persist.

Children's privacy

Essel is built for businesses and is not directed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When changes are material, we will update the date above and notify you in-app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
